One Definite Instruction for a Happy Day, Every Day.

Mar 28, 2016

Thank you for signing up for my mailing list for my brand new website. I super appreciate it. I want to use this space each week to write about healing, abundance and miracles, mostly using the instructions from A Course in Miracles as the inspiration.

As you might already know, I love A Course in Miracles.

When I began ” to do what it says” my life completely transformed.

Here’s the funny part though – it took me about 25 years to “do what it says” and not make exceptions.

A Course in Miracles came into my life in 1992 and mostly I had a lot of questions and confusion. I didn’t have anyone around to tell me how to do it, so I didn’t even realize there was a workbook with 365 lessons until a couple of years later around 1995 when someone pointed it out to me.

In typical fashion for me back then, I started the workbook without reading the Introduction – which is the Specific Instructions about How to Do It.

The Introduction for the Workbook is only One and Half Pages long, but for some reason (that reason being that I’m stubborn) I didn’t think I needed to read it. I felt I could just jump right in and get it on my own.

In my mind back then, the Introduction and Instructions were for “other” people.

I spent the next 5 years trying to understand Lessons 1 through 50. I never got past Lesson 50 in 5 years because every time I got to Lesson 50 I thought “I must be doing this wrong because I’m more confused than ever” and I would start back on Lesson 1. This went on for 5 years – from 1995-2000 – me trying to understand the first 50 Lessons, with no success.

Finally, thankfully, someone pointed out the Introduction for me and told me “Just Do It”. It takes one year. Don’t try to understand these lessons. They are not understandable. It tells you this in the Introduction, FYI … if only I had read it, which I had not.

So from that moment, I made a commitment to do the workbook lessons of A Course in Miracles, one lesson a day, for one year.

And that’s the year my life changed dramatically. I kept the book near my bed and when I woke up in the morning, I reached for the book and did my lesson.

This was before cellphones. Now most people reach over and grab their cellphone and start texting, checking email and cruising Facebook, which is not a great way to start the day – externally focused.

The best way to have a Happy Day is to start it by being Internally Focused on the Truth and the Love that you are.

My experience is that you simply MUST START even when you don’t know what you’re doing or how you are going to finish.

Think about something you would like to try.

Right now for me its this website and a commitment to write a weekly blog. I’d like to occasionally do video and audio talks. I have no idea what I am doing. I haven’t written consistently in years. Maybe I’ll have nothing to say, and that’s okay too.

I’m not 100% clear on what I’m doing or what I want (I’m not even 25% clear!) but I remember what it was like when I made the commitment to do the workbook lessons of A Course in Miracles. I didn’t know what I was doing back then either, and I didn’t have to know! All I had to do was take baby-steps every day – one lesson a day! Open the book and do what it says!

And my life completely changed, with that one decision.

I didn’t give up when it got difficult, and believe me, it got difficult. There were moments of extreme frustration that year in 2000. I lost my job in New York City. I kept going.

What I have found is that when things get difficult, that is PRECISELY when you need to keep going with a daily practice. I kept trusting God even when everything was falling apart.

And then new people and new situations began appearing in my life. It was a miracle! I was awake to these changes in my life. I recognized that a shift was taking place. It was a gradual shift, but I was aware that new things were occurring and I kept doing those workbook lessons! One lesson a day!

When you take Baby Steps every day, doing something consistently, it often doesn’t feel like you’re doing very much. But when you go the whole distance, at the end, you feel like an Olympic Champion and you look back and can see how dramatically your life has changed. You realize you respond to people and situations differently.

To me there is One Definite Instruction for a Happy Day, Every Day:

Begin each day Connecting Within, Remembering the Truth of Your Identity.

One Response to “One Definite Instruction for a Happy Day, Every Day.”

Thank you for being so honest and real! You have no idea how much this inspires me! I love it, when you said you are not 100% clear of what you are doing or what you want not even
25 %! The bottom line is you are just simply doing it! Thank you for being such an inspiration! The bottom line is we all need to just say yes and just do it! Thank you Lisa for saying “yes”!
