Inner Guidance: How Heavy Is Water in a Glass?

Apr 26, 2016

I heard a great story about a glass of water. Most people say: is it half empty or half full?

The question in this situation is “How heavy is the glass and water?”

The answer is: It gets heavier the longer you hold it.

And it’s exactly like this with our thoughts – they get heavier the longer we hold on to them.

It’s not heavy when you put it down. It’s weighs nothing to you, in fact.

Same with your thoughts, emotions, stories and grievances.

They weigh a lot when you carry them around with you all day long, week after week, year after year.

Put your thoughts down. Put your emotions down. Put your stories down. Put your grievances down.

They weigh nothing to you when you put them down.

Take time every day to connect to the Self you are. Step away from the computer. Go outside. Play. Have fun. Close your eyes. Relax.

I got to thinking this morning about how easy my life has become since I no longer make any decisions by myself. I make all decisions with my Guide, Christ within.

You have a Inner Guide that knows exactly all the answers to every single one of your questions, problems and perceived difficulties.

So if we all have a Guide and immediate on-the-spot access to Inner Guidance, so then how come so many people are struggling?

Why so much doubt and confusion???

Because very few people take the time to be quiet, ask and listen.

It takes practice, patience and dedication to develop Inner Guidance.

In my opinion, developing Inner Guidance is mastery and an art.

It’s like building a new muscle or developing a new skill, it takes focus and commitment.

Would you like to develop a relationship with your Inner Guide?

If the answer is YES, keep reading!

How many times have you thought to yourself: “I don’t know what to do.”

Here are some other variations of this:

“I don’t know what my life purpose is.”

“I’m not sure what to do in this situation (take an action, make a phone call, do nothing or do something)”

“I’m not sure if I should leave or stay at my job (relationship, marriage, etc)”

“I’m confused.”

All of this results in a feeling of doubt, procrastination, frustration, boredom and being stuck.

There is a solution: Learn to listen and follow Inner Guidance.

I feel the most important FIRST THING is to become aware that you have a Guide, and it’s you – your highest Self beyond the confusion.

I know this might seem really basic and extremely self-explanatory, but I believe this is the #1 reason people don’t consult within on a regular all-the-time basis. Either they don’t know they have a Guide OR they do know, but they consistently forget.

The other reason is just sheer bad habit. We are so used to doing things alone, figuring it out, fixing problems, talking about problems, asking for a friend’s advice, searching the internet, and attempting to understand. We “wrack our brains” looking for solutions.

Probably THE LAST THING WE DO is sit still and be quiet and ask for help, direction and guidance.

Start to watch yourself.

Notice your “normal” feelings, thoughts, emotions, routines and habits. This is a way to become aware of how you normally think and feel – and soon you start to notice when another Voice is present. You will be able to distinguish between the two voices and you’ll be able to tell the difference between them.

Notice when “an idea pops into your head” to do something you don’t normally do. Pay attention.

Next time you have a problem, difficulty or question, pay really close attention to yourself.

In the 40-Day Program for Transformation (a program I created for the Teachers of God Foundation, offered 3 times a year for free – January 1st, May 1st and September), I give an instruction that I suggest everyone follows for the entire 40 days called “Watch yourself like a hawk”. Here is the link to sign up:

Most people are utterly amazed by this one instruction. Try it. For one whole day, watch yourself like a hawk.

Watch how many thoughts run through your head before you even get out of bed in the morning. Watch all the imaginary conversations you have during the day. Watch the judgments. Watch for how your mind starts trying to solve problems and “think” about things. Watch when someone cuts you off in traffic or cuts in front of you at the coffee shop, what is your reaction? Watch yourself. Pay really close attention.

And the next time you have a problem, difficulty or question, watch yourself like a hawk.

What’s the first thing you do?

What’s the second thing you do?

What’s the third thing you do?

What’s going on in your mind?

What are you thinking?

What are you feeling?

And now …. watch how long it takes for you to sit quietly, shut off the thinking mind and ask within.

This exercise will probably shock you. A lot of people actually never get to the “get quiet and ask within” part. They just keep searching the internet for an hour.

How many times a day do you close your eyes, go within, and just simply rest?

For most people, the answer is zero.

If this is you, would you be willing to stop your activities once an hour (or a couple times a day) and get quiet?

There is no set-in-stone technique, instructions or formula for guidance.

You actually know what to do already. Get quiet.

Now it’s just a matter of doing it.

Simply take time every day – once an hour at least is ideal – and stop everything. Just stop. Close your eyes. Or keep them open. It doesn’t matter. Turn your focus and attention within. What’s important is that your focus shift from external to internal. That is all.

Try it for a few days and you’ll be amazed.

When you have a question, acknowledge your Guide and ask what to do.

When you are in doubt, be still and ask for instruction. Ask for a sign. Ask for clarity. Ask to be shown.

Know that you are not alone. Make time for God. Make time for listening. Make time for quiet.

Beautiful Lisa, Inspiring to remind us all of Higher Holy Spirit Self. We forget this in times of panic, fear, doubt, uncertainty. I have a post it it note on my desk that i wrote:

    I am adding Ask!

    Love you.
    In Gratitude. Uullee

Thanks for this reminder, Lisa! It is such a simple thing to do, but so easy to get busy in my routine and forget. Love to you!

Thank YOU Lisa ! I needed this blog today. And I do the same things, putting things away for the perfect time. And, was just sharing that with a friend the other day.

As for listening to Guidance. I am getting better and better and seeing the results. One of my methods to connect that never fails is to write my confusion down with my right hand (I am right-handed) hopefully ending with a question. Then sitting quietly with the pen shifted to my left hand and put it to paper… the left hand will write the “answer”, or give guidance in it’s nearly unreadable script. But the guide is SO CLEAR and I have learned I can trust it absolutely. It does take some practice but well worth the effort.

    With Love, Patricia

Thank you Lisa for this wonderful reminder to ‘check in’ with your guide throughout the day. My daily practice is the one you taught us. Every morning, when I wake, I sit quietly with Jesus, say the prayer ‘What would you have me do’ etc. and write down what I am given. Some of the guidance is just so beautiful and always appropriate. It’s a wonderful way to start the day. Thank you for this Lisa. Of course I forget many times throughout the day, so just wanted to say thank you for reminding us. And thank you too for the amazing 40-Day Programme. So looking forward to taking this again <3

  11. Lori says:

Thank you Lisa – as always – for your amazing messages. They always show up at exactly the right time! Funny how that works. With love and gratitude.

  12. Angie says:

This is wonderful, thank you Lisa. I really like when things are made very practical and pertinent to this ‘here and now’. I let my attention drop into my ‘heart’ in the centre of my chest, and there’s a sense of rooted Ness and quiet, and from here, I listen and be open. And I forget this constantly! Need reminding. ♡♡♡
