This morning in my journal I downloaded a bunch of notes about living a life you love.
I call it “downloaded” because that’s often what my journaling feels like: dumping notes through my hands onto paper.
This morning’s notes were about what occurs when different vibrations (from the ones you are familiar and accustomed to) are suddenly on the scene. When “new” energy fields (they are not new – but they feel “new” when you have been living so long in your familiar energy patterns) are suddenly in your awareness, it can show up as a feeling that something is “off”.
Suddenly your life doesn’t feel quite right anymore.
But what happens?
We stay in the old familiar routines, patterns and energy fields trying to make them work.
We justify why we are doing things we don’t really want to do anymore.
We make excuses.
We feel obligated.
The result is a feeling of being stuck, powerless, hopeless, frustrated, irritated, judgmental.
Life is calling us to expand in every moment and if you don’t go, it feels bad.
Why don’t we expand? Why don’t we go? Why don’t we follow our heart and do what we really want to do?
We are afraid of rocking the boat. Afraid of losing control. Afraid of letting people down. Afraid of not having money. Afraid of what people will think. Afraid of disrupting someone else’s life (because when you really step into joy and freedom – it IS going to affect other people).
So, we play small. We hide our light.
We wait it out.
We think: “Well, it’s okay.”
Here is my old-standby: “I’m good. I’m fine. It’s okay. I’m good doing things I don’t really love, it’s okay. It needs to get done and I can do it easily. No problem.”
And well … IT is a problem because you’re hanging out in energy fields you have long outgrown.
And if you feel anything other than complete joy and freedom, that’s what’s really going on in your life.
So today, ask yourself:
“Am I compromising?”
The best indication for you to know if you are hanging out in old energy fields is to notice if you find yourself saying “should”. The word or thought “should” is a red flashing warning light that you are in the wrong neighborhood, off your center.
When you are off-your-center – living away from the Truth of what you really are – you have to work really hard.
When you are efforting, “trying” to make something happen, doing what you really don’t love to do but feeling like you “have to” know this: YOU’RE OFF CENTER.
And when ever you are off center from your True Self – the light you are – it feels bad and everything feels like a struggle.
The solution? COME BACK.
Come back to your center, to the resting place of love and joy, and everything starts getting really easy.
And this takes courage because you are probably going to to have some hard conversations with yourself and with other people as you step into a life of joy and freedom.
Do you have a vision for your life?
Do you know what you are here to do?
I can tell you this, it is a path of joy.
It is a path of playfulness, fun, creative expression, connection and relaxation.
Today if you find yourself doing something you really don’t want to do, I invite you take a few moments and be still in that place.
Check in. Get quiet.
Ask yourself: Why am I doing this?
You are not going to change the external picture (and least not yet), but you are SIMPLY BEING QUIET AND CHECKING IN WITH YOURSELF.
Why are you doing things you don’t want to do?
Why do you say YES when you want to say NO?
And why do you say NO when you want to say YES?
What you will discover in almost every situation, the answer is FEAR.
You are afraid to let your world fall apart, afraid to upset people, afraid to step into your magnitude.
And then we compromise “just a little”.
We tell ourselves all kinds of stories to avoid looking at that fear.
Fear of saying “I don’t really want to do this anymore”.
Fear of doing what you really love.
Fear of being criticized. Fear of being told you are selfish, self-centered. Fear of being judged.
So, instead of looking directly at the fear and making a decision to heal it, we keep efforting.
Telling ourselves “it’s okay. I can handle it.”
Meanwhile, your life is passing you by and every day feels like just getting by.
I know this all too well from deep personal first-hand experience.
And a year ago, the day before my 50th birthday, I got very clear that my life from that moment on was going to be a path of joy and freedom. I decided that was my 50th birthday present to myself to be vibrantly alive and live a life of joy and freedom, no matter what.
I was no longer going to do things I didn’t want to do.
And I was going to do all the things I did want to do.
It didn’t happen overnight. Getting out of old energy fields is often a process. It takes time so be gentle with yourself.
But I do invite you today to sit quietly and be honest with yourself. Do you really love your life?
Is it all you imagined?
Do you have a vision for your life? How would you LOVE to be spending your days?
Are you rejoicing every second because you know Who You Are?
If not, I encourage you to spend some time in quiet today, in honesty, and imagine a vision for your life.
Ask yourself if you are willing to begin stepping in that direction.
I encourage you to begin with a baby step today and add one thing into your life that really brings you joy.
Just doing that one thing along will get the stuck energy fields unstuck.
I guarantee it.
It may feel uncomfortable but that’s only because when energy begins to move it feels different.
It will feel uncomfortable when you stand up for yourself and say “no thank you. I don’t feel like doing that”
It may feel uncomfortable when you start doing what you love instead of doing what you think you “should” do.
If you know me at all, you know one of my favorite phrases is I’M GOING!
I make a decision to do something bold, and 9 times of out 10, I have no idea how it’s going to work or if it’s going to work, or it’s going to be a complete disaster – but the pain of staying tightly wound finally becomes intolerable.
And I say: I’M GOING. I AM ALL IN.
This is my life and I am not going to spend one more minute of it playing small, living in fear.
So, some things to think about.
Find one thing that really brings you joy today and go do it. Even it it’s just a 15-minute reading break when you “should” be working.
That will get the energy field moving!
Today, check in on your vision. What did you imagine for your life? Are you living it?
If not, there are some blocks of fear in your mind that can be easily removed by your decision to live authentically, from your center.
